The Comparison Of BlackBerry 10 vs Android, iOS And WP8

The Comparison Of BlackBerry 10 vs Android, iOS And WP8. The choices of smartphone platforms become more various in 2013. Besides Android and iOS as the dominant platforms, there are alternative choices, namely Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry Z10.
Each platform has their awesome features that differ one from another. To see the differences between those platforms, here are the lists:
  1. Interface
iOS interface which is used by iPhone from Apple seems to be similar as it was first launched in 2007, it did not change a lot. Compared to other platforms, iOS screen looks simpler that others, with apps icons and folder welcoming the users. Besides, there are no much things can be customized except little things like wallpaper and icons position.
But the simplicity iOS carries is also commendable, since it brings easiness to the users, even to the new smartphone users.
In the other hand, Android added homescreen that enables the users to add their own favorite widgets, app shortcuts and folders. It provided flexibility to the users in managing the screen as they wish.
But Android screens depend on the device producers, so it can be different one from another. It is because handset producers add their own UI customization like Samsung with TouchWiz and HTC with Sense.
Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 are between iOS and Android in term of interface flexibility. The approach used by Microsoft to Windows Phone 8 is more similar to iOS with identical layout between devices.
Windows Phone 8 homescreen has got “Live Tiles” that look like Android widgets, where apps, like e-mail and weather app, show the update in real-time.
BlackBerry has its own way by applying the interface which is full of navigation from the users’ fingers. There is no home or back button that can be held down, since the fingers determine the navigation.
About the main screen, BlackBerry 10 OS has the similar one to iOS and Android with apps icons in neat arrangement. The Comparison Of BlackBerry 10 vs Android, iOS And WP8
  2. Messaging
no matter how sophisticated a smartphone is, people remain using smartphone to make a call, but mostly use it to send messages.
The message itself is not always a text message. Like in Android, people can send message from many apps like WhatsApp and Skype from Google Play.
The Android handset producers are free in managing features of their own products, including virtual keyboard. Therefore, the experience in typing on Android may be different from one handset to another, depends on the handset. If the users are not satisfied with the standard keyboard, they are able to download keyboard app from the third party, like the popular SwiftKey.
In the other side, iOS only allows the users to use iPhone original keyboard. The good news is, iPhone keyboard are responsive and accurate, and thus it helps the users to type fast.
iOS provides text messaging and email apps separately. Besides, Apple also offers iMessage app that enables the users to send messages to other iPhone users with no charge. The Comparison Of BlackBerry 10 vs Android, iOS And WP8
Meanwhile, BlackBerry 10 still depends on its popular chatting app, BlackBerry Messenger. BlackBerry 10 has added a feature to this app, called BlackBerry Hub that make messaging easier, since all messages from all messaging apps are compiled there. For instance, messages from Twitter and Facebook can be written and replied directly from BlackBerry Hub without opening the apps. Additionally, to avoid the users’ confusion, BlackBerry Hub can be set to display one account only.
Then, how does Windows Phone 8 cope with this situation? This platform manage messaging in old way, it is providing separate apps for text, e-mail, and third party messaging.
One new messaging feature of this operating system is Windows Live Messenger. The app is attached to Skype, which is Microsoft recent acquisition.
  3. Internet
Those mobile operating systems come with their own browsers and allow the users to use alternative browsers from the third party.
Android Jelly Bean version 4.1 depends on Google Chrome as the standard browser. Chrome for Android is the light one, not the same as Chrome for desktop. It is designed to browse in high speed.
The browsing speed of Android handsets are various, depends on the hardware from the producers. The high-end products such as Galaxy S III, Nexus 4, and One X+ browsing speed can be equal to the competitors’ browsing speed, but the cheaper handset may not offer such a speed.
Differs from Android, iOS depends on Safari from the very first launching. iPhone as the high-end product has linear browsing speed, not only in older version like iPhone 3GS, but also in the latest version.
In Windows Phone 8, Internet Explorer 10 is the standard browser. It has phishing filter and SmartScreen that augment the users’ security in surfing. Those features make Windows Phone 8 is better in term of surfing internet. The Comparison Of BlackBerry 10 vs Android, iOS And WP8
In a glance, BlackBerry 10 browser looks like Internet Explorer. This browser offers a high speed browsing, Reading Mode, and support Flash.
  4. Camera
Microsoft has optimized camera app in Windows Phone 8. It becomes clearer and simpler with a little menu button to access various camera functions. The most excellent feature is “Lens”, it is filters collection from the third party that can be applied to add visual effects. All Windows Phone handsets provide a physical button (shutter button) to capture and launch app easier.
Differs from Windows Phone 8, Android Jelly Bean carries a number of changes. The camera app in this operating system is better than the older version; it adopts review system that aimed to make images choosing easier. Another feature available in Android 4.2 is PhotoSphere that enables the users capture image 360 degrees. The results may seem odd, but it is fun to try. Besides, there are various setting of camera function, like white balance and exposure, panorama mode and photo editing.
iOS 6 carries the same camera app to its older version, iOS 5. Easiness is the main priority in this app. All setting is set automatic, including the focus point that can be set by tapping the screen. Besides, the volume button can be functioned as the shutter button.
In BlackBerry 10, “Timeshift” is the main feature that enables the users to capture image respectively as they wish. If you ever experienced a group photo when one of you was blinking eyes, you can use this feature to roll back the time and take their best poses without eyes blinked. Besides, BlackBerry 10 also has a built-in image editor. The volume button can be functioned as shutter button like iPhone’s.
  5. Apps
Apps are the most important aspect of mobile platforms. Android and iOS are the dominant of them all. They both provide more than 700,000 apps in each App Store.
Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 is far from the 2 platforms above, although they stress that the quality is more important than quantity.
  6. MapNo wonder if Android Jelly Bean use Google Maps as the default map app. Other Google Maps features on desktop are also carried by this platform, including Street View, 3D, indoor mapping, turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic information.
Microsoft removed Bing map service in Windows Phone 8 and replaced it with Nokia Maps. The main features are 3D navigation and Navtec Traffic Service.
In the other side, iOS disappointed the users using Apple Maps. Tim Cook as the CEO of the company apologized for the error and suggested the users to use other map services.
Differs from iOS, BlackBerry partners with TomTom to provide map app. This app is quite detail, but not as good as Google Maps. It only offers standard map view, no overlay satellite, no Street View, no Flover.
